Tracey Holland
Tracey Holland uses film and photography to create work, mainly site specific, which has been shown extensively in the UK and internationally. Holland is involved with how certain types of imagery, moving image and still image sequences work together, often incorporating filmwork within a specific place, space or vessel, so interconnecting form and subject matter. Certain elements of folk tale, myth and religion often become reference points within the work; these are chosen for their depiction of psychological archetypes; these transcend a particular time and place, relating to unchanging truths about human nature and experience. Holland’s images have an innate sense of history, containing naturalistic elements, but often out of place or askew. Combined with objects embodying a more personal iconography, the work is layered with place, time and history. Confluence, her last major show was a collection of six interconnected installed pieces including moving image, holographic assemblage and photographic works, shown at Grimsby and Hull Minsters in 2022. This Arts Council funded project based on several years of research in and around the Humber reflected the resonances, history and psycho-geographic nature of place and space.
